Things to do in Zurich during Christmas or a lazy winter day

If you think that in December when it is cold and dark outside people in Zurich stay in their sweet homes, you’ve got the wrong idea. The city shines from its best side. And we all love the pre and after christmas season!  Zurich is kind of magical, with plenty of Christmas decorations and lights. This blogs tory gives you an overview on how to spend your pre christmas time in the beautiful Zurich city centre.The start of the christmas season is the last weekend in November, when the “Lucy” fest takes place. This is the official day, when a sparkling starry sky over the Bahnhofstrasse is lit. At 6 pm the Christmas lights will be switched on and shops are opened till late in the evening.

  • Christmas market
    The Wiehnachtsdorf at Bellevue platz belongs to Zurich’s main Christmas market attraction. It is a land of milk and honey for hungry and thirsty kids and adults. It’s on from 22.11. until 23.12.2018. On the traditional Sechseläutenplatz right in front of the opera house, more than 100 huts create a cozy christmas village for browsing, shopping, feasting and lingering. Experience a musical advent calendar, graceful ice princesses, enchanted storytellers and other guests provide entertainment for young and old. On the cute artificial ice rink, winter fans can enjoy a fun-filled round of games, and in the Villa Zauberwurz magical character captivates little visitors with fairy tales, humor and costumer. Beside that you find the Fondue Chalet Klosters, an Après-Ski chalet for a punch, Glühwein and other drinks including plenty food stalls with finger licking international street food.
    Opening hours: Monday – Thursday to 11 pm, Friday + Saturday to 12 pm, Sunday to 10 pm.
  • Winterwonderland with shiny lights, shows, food & drinks
    Welcome to Illuminarium where an enchanting winter wonderland of light, illumination, illusion, music and culinary delights waits for you. It’s located in the inner courtyard of the Landesmuseum Zurich. Be prepared to dive into a magical storytelling world. Try the food stalls, slurp mulled wine and enjoy concerts by mysterious mythical creatures by Yuki and her fabulous friends.

  • Restaurant, Canteen, Club & Bar “Warenhaus” – Pop-up
    This is where you hang out either for lunch or after work. In the basement of the former nursery department you can dance all evening long between white, naked mannequins and old OVS fashion campaigns.

  • Bar & Dance club with local residence Djs – “Rouge”
    Red is the best cure for sadness, claimed American fashion designer Bill Blass (1922-2002). This motto is followed by the red decorated Rouge Bar in Kreis 5, which is also a club. Here DJs like Lexx, Sentiment or Jay Boogie are playing until Christmas. Of course, different red drinks are served!
