Sevi Boutique Hotel Zanzibar

My personal highlight:
A peaceful hideaway where to slurp an exotic fresh juice and spent hours observing the crystal clear Zanzibar sea

Welcome to Sevi Boutique Hotel ! This little pearl is located in the village of Matemwe on the north-eastern coast of Unguja, the main island of the Zanzibar Archipelago, between Mwangaseni and Kigomani.

A day at Sevi Boutique Hotel starts with a hearty welcome of the staff and a delicious breakfast! Home made bread, croissants and jams combined with fresh juices to boost your energy. All of this served on a spacious terrace overlooking the sea. The African dream !

After breakfast there is the choice to either relax at the pools. One is the infinity pool overlooking the sea, the other is embedded in a beautiful garden. For those who choose a Spa day, choose out of their massages and get a swim at the pool in the SPA area after your treatment!
My mornings often started with a walk along the white sandy beaches admiring the incredible wide tides! The scenery is amazing and nature full of surprises.

What I loved best at this place is its tranquility. Traveling from the northern part of Zanzibar that is more busy and crowded with tourists and all inclusive resorts, this spot is unattractive for beach boys. All hotels here are relatively far apart.
Sometimes in the evening you see local boys and kids playing football, I enjoyed this bit of action in the hood!

My personal suggestions: As almost everywhere on the islands, the beach is dependent on the tides. At low tide, the sea can get beyond the coral barrier. An accommodation with pool is therefore recommended.

Accommodation

Find 14 different villas or Bungalows in the traditional Bandas style. The rooms are very spacious and decorated with natural materials. Little details as a hammock in the garden or private little pool make your stay extra special. I loved to do my morning yoga in 2nd floor of my Bandas and get a bath in my cozy private pool! All rooms are surrounded by a well maintained garden, this offers good privacy between every bungalow. Of course there is a mosquito net around your the kingsize bed and AC.

As honeymoon travelers or family holiday with kids opt for the Villa. It offers a seafront and all comfort you need on 250 sqm on two floors. The view out of the balcony on the second floor will leave you lots of unforgettable memories to bring back home.

Book your room here and ask for the actual rates!

Food & Drinks

As a food lover I was very happy to enjoy fresh sea food every day. The fish is caught practically in front of the hotel. The menu choice is small but special every day. There are dishes for vegetarian, too. I was happy to discover various local Swahili dishes with excellent curry during my stay. Get a variety of raw tuna carpaccio to grilled lobster combined with local vegetables and spices. Be prepared to fall in love with special aromatized salts as curry or cinnamon and fresh baked bread!

What to do around Matemwe & Sevi Boutique Hotel

Matemwe is ideally located for snorkeling or diving at the Mnemba Atoll, one of the diving hotspots of the island. If you are planning several dives, Matemwe is a good choice. Ask the Diving specialist at Sevi to advise you. A snorkeling morning is around 45 USD which I found reasonable, all equipment used was of good quality, wet suit, water, coffee & snacks included. Of course you can choose a service from the local fisher man that are around the beach. Prices are cheaper but service quality varies. The staff of Sevi Boutique Hotel and Manager George are very happy to assist you for any kind of activity.
I would like to take the occasion here to say thank you for the time spent at Sevi and hope to be back soon!

25Hours Hotels The Royal Bavarian Munich

My personal highlight: Learning more about Munich’s history, the Bavarian Royals and their traditions in a modern, fancy and glorious interpreted way at 25 Hours Hotels Munich

How do you book your hotels? Which criteria do matter for your booking? How much do you know about 25Hours Hotels available in Germany, Austria and Switzerland? Let me introduce you to the new 25Hours HotelThe Royal Bavarian” in Munich. Get more insights on other 25Hours hotels on my accommodation guide here (Zurich) or here (Hamburg)!

I experienced 25 Hours Hotels this year the first time in Hamburg. I have to admit, before traveling to a city after having had excellent experiences with them, I first check, if a 25 Hours Hotel is available.

The Royal Bavarian opened its doors just recently and is brand new in Munich. It’s located 2 minutes from the train station and offers all high level standards and services known from other 25Hours Hotels.

What makes The Royal Bavarian Hotel in Munich special?

Anne one of the hotel staff members guides me through the house and explains to me significant details that were used to create this Bavarian surrounding. I see myriads of ironic and iconographic allusions to Bavarian history and its royal legacy. I love the story, that the Managers and the architect went for a guided sightseeing tour through Munich, to best grab and understand relevant details of its history. The goal was to transmit them into the design concept and interior to make the place authentic and real. Special elements as the ancient sledge, the swan chair or the furniture in the Boilerman Bar feature selected, materials. They create affectionate nods allover the place. This is the signature experience of this hotels.

The hotel is situated in a ancient building from the year 1800 ca. a former Imperial Post and Telegraph Office on the forecourt of the Central Station. That is why for example you find some ancient original typing machines in the hotel alley. Hotel guests have the opportunity to type their own letter, feel thrown back in time, and mail it to the wished address afterwards.

The catchy topic of the hotel is the Royal Bavarian History. I notice lots of Swan and Elefant elements all over the hotel. These were favorite animals of farmer royals. King Ludwig II of Bavaria, also known as the “Fairytale King was one of them, he lived in the castle called Neuschwanstein. Neuschwanstein literally means “New Swan Castle” referencing of “the Swan Knight” one of the Wagner’s characters.”. King Ludwig was a great admirer and supporter of Richard Wagner, the world-renowned composer.

Enjoy local hand made dried Engadine meat specialities or goat cheese specialities from their local cheesemaker.
I absolutely recommend their risotto. It comes with fresh mushrooms and local alp cheese that makes its taste intense and creamy.
The cheesecake is a must try and signature dish on the menu, it’s made of goat cheese. Their Saazer Moorechopf – sticky sweet chocolate marshmallow kisses are finger licking.

Today it has been transformed into an exclusive 5 star hotel property within an immense beautiful park reaching 100 hectares, the biggest hotel park in Switzerland.

Gourmet food and Merlot grapes

Chef Mattias Roock is the Chef of the kitchen at Castello del Sole. He focusses on the use of fresh and local products and maintains a strong and close relationship to local farmers. The actual menu of the gourmet restaurant „Locanda Barbarossa“ is called “i sapori del nostro orto”. Which means, flavors of our gardens.

The ingredients and products used are cultivated exclusively from Ticino and the Terreni alla Maggia. This includes the Loto risotto rice for example or the exclusive rare black polenta and herbs from their hotel permaculture garden.

Additional hotel restaurants as the “Cortile Leone“, the „Tre Stagioni“ or the „Parco Saleggi“ follow this mediterranean farm to table  philosophy of Chef Roock. During summer a barbecue outside or a Streetfood van at the beach restaurant are absolutely recommended, too.

Experience an unforgettable helicopter ride to the close by Ristorante Rustico del Sole up on 1000 m. A breathtaking moment overlooking Lago Maggiore and the alps. The ideal surrounding to enjoy best homemade dishes from the Hotel Castello staff.

My personal highlights

The hotel is surrounded by an incredible green park and garden. All flowers found in my room are some of the most beautiful ever seen. An in-house garden center makes this possible. It’s the love they put in the decoration of the whole house making it a shiny jewel.

Waking up in the morning by singing birds, spending a moment on the terrace admiring rice fields cultivated in Switzerland, is something I never thought to experience in my life. The ample untouched fields are pure peace and joy for heart and soul.

Yoga, retreats, surf and culture or just relax

No matter what your heart is in the mood for. Some days of detox including yoga lessons, a mix of beach and Balinese culture tour or easy relaxing time at the pool. Choose what fits best to you. Putu and Mikaku are happy to give you suggestions. They have the perfect understanding in catching your need.

Planning your own retreat or considering  joining one? The Yoga Sanctuary with 2000 square foot (186 sq meters) space is perfect. It has been heralded as “Asia’s best place to practice Yoga*.

My personal highlights

Being part of this house for a few days made me understand what a eco friendly surrounding Putu and Mikaku built here in Bali. As a traveler you get to see a lot of beaches and forests in Indonesia, clean ones but sadly lot of dirty ones. Through my stay here I feel the desire to support their actual project called The Green Village project. It supports locals in giving more awareness to protect their environment and keep it clean. Villages throughout Bali are competing to become the cleanest and greenest community on the island. I think it’s really important to share and support each other. I am happy to have taken part of this experience at Floating Leaf and thankful to all of the new nice souls met here. Terimakasi /Thank you Floating Leaf Family.

25Hours Hotel Zürich Langstrasse

My personal highlight: Living the urban nomad style in between of Langstrasse and Europaallee in Zurich by getting involved into NENI’s food philosophy and the Balagan lifestyle. Christoph Hoffmann’s & Haya Molcho’s life attitude is viral!

People who do not know this area of Zurich will love it right away. Langstrasse Kreis 4 meets Europaallee Kreis 5. The diversity is astonishing. Walking through Langstrasse you understand what I mean. It’s the most multi cultural area of Zurich including a red light district and plenty of amazing young art.
Across the other side to Europaallee you feel the new trend towards modern office spaces, local designer stores and fancy popup stores.

The best premise to open up a pocket universe

Who better than the creative heads at 25Hours Hotels could perfectly put into scene the vibrant changes of these two Zurich areas and merge them into a hotel concept? That is how 25 Hours Hotels Zürich Langstrasse was born.

Christoph Hoffmann, CEO of 25Hours Hotels and his team cooperated with local architects E2A and the interior Design Studio Aisslinger from Berlin. A fancy, stylish but very practical and surprising surrounding is the result.

Since art is an important topic in this Zurich area you get to see big pieces of art spread all over the house.
An in-house atelier lead by the Zurich artist Esther Eppstein has its base in the hotel. Esther invites and promotes young artists and coaches them on a defined project.
Find a Kiosk curated by local Media publisher KEIN & ABER VERLAG. Get selected books or fancy accessories.

Try the Balagan style, which means that you order several plates and share them together!

The house bar Cinchona is where world experienced Barkeeper Jörg Meyer introduces guests to a new trend of “day drinking”. Taste the daily changing variety of Highball drinks with best local Vermouth, Sherry or port mixed with tonic water and citrus fruits. The two big ice balls keep your drink at the right temperature and coolness.

Seminars, Events working spaces

A cozy corner with a chimney invites to relax and read a book on the main floor. The hotel offers a lot of space to relax and work. Spaces can be rent and used for conferences or private events, too.
The club floor on the first floor throws you back in time. Find analog game room as a polaroid flipper box or a sound lounge and additional working or event spaces.

My personal highlights

Getting to know Haya Molcho and feeling her passion for food is delightful. She is a person full of energy and ideas transmitting the Balagan style. On of her sons laughs and confirms, that she is really Balagan. This Hebrew word means: sympathetic chaos! NENI is a word play out of her 4 sons names. Nuriel, Elior, Nadiv and Ilan. The name reflects their philosophy of life. NENI is a passion paired with openness and love for food. Eating is always done at a large table with the whole family and many friends. That is what you feel when talking to Haya Molcho in person. That is also what you feel when entering at NENI Restaurant at 25 Hours Hotels.

The Molcho Family runs several NENI restaurants within the 25Hours Hotels in Europe. They make sure the NENI philosophy is lived in every NENI Restaurant. The Kitchen team at 25Hours Hotels gets regular coaching on how to prepare and maintain the NENI food philosophy alive.

Food at NENI

The restaurant offers a open space for lunch, after work and dinner. The interior is very fancy bright and invites people to relax at the bar after a busy day.

NENI is famous for eclectic east Mediterranean cuisine inspired by Street food style from Tel Aviv. Haya Molcho is the Chef and founder of the NENI restaurants. She runs the restaurant business with her 4 sons. She loves to travel so the dishes are internationally inspired. Most of the food can be ordered as Balagan. Balagan is a lovely way to define an sympathetic chaos in hebrew. Order across the menu and share with your friends.

I liked the Sabich very much. Sabich is a streetfood from Tel Aviv. It comes with baked eggplant, hummus, tomato salsa, tahina with amba and poached egg in a tortilla.

The Jerusalem plate is a must try, too. Comes with grilled strips of chicken breast, bell pepper, onions, oriental spices and fresh herbs, hummus, tahina and pita bread.

For breakfast I love their tea selection called samova and hand made fruity jams  from local producers.

My personal highlights

Walking through this house feels like being on a mini tour through Switzerland. The concept of Alfredo Häberli is perfectly set into place. Guest feel like in wonderland. Me too.

The dessert is my culinary highlight! The Kanafeh with a Mozzarella-Ricotta filling, Joghurt ice cream and minced pistachios was fingerlickn’ good.

I felt home here. Thank you to the staff for this wonderful experience and being part of the Lovefoodish travel guide.
